END SARS PROTEST (2020)

After 60years of gaining her independence, Nigeria - a West African nation - experienced an unusual happening within her borders. On 8th October, 2020, in several states across the nation, starting from Lagos, the youths rose up to voice against the wanton behavior of SARS in a national march protest.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is a Nigerian Police Force unit created in late 1992 to deal with crimes associated with robbery, motor vehicle theft, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and firearms (culled from wikipedia.com). Years past, there has been so many allegations levied against SARS for their misconduct. Since the late 90s, to it becoming an issue of Twitter rants and social media protests, and then until 2020 when it outburst into a national dissent.

The youth demanded for the immediate scrapping and dissolve, due to the incessant and perpetual misuse of power and failure to perform their duties. During the protests, many hidden and unknown experience were revealed about their hideous actions and ordeals with the citizens. In some states, protesters were attacked, violence erupted as the protest against SARS metamorphosed into a demand for good governance and restructuring. The Kwara state youth also joined the movement as protests were been held day after day to echo and pass the single message from the youths.

The movement #ENDSARS is largely seen as a revival that helps to check and assess the delegates in power and governmental offices, and how well they have been doing in past years
